Frequently Asked Questions

What is the life expectancy of a Bowman Trap?

Our automatic traps have been in production for 19 years. Some of the earliest traps we produced are at South Worcester Shooting Ground, throwing clays on a daily basis!

What battery should I use to operate my trap?

We recommend using 85amp hr leisure batteries for smaller traps, for example the Supermatch 1, compact 150 and Supermatch 6.

A 110amp hr battery would be more appropriate for the powerful Supermatch 8 which, demands a lot of power to arm the strong spring.

We sell transformers that convert 240v to 12v that will operate traps if you have a source of electricity onsite.

We also sell solar panel and mains power chargers to maintain charge in your batteries Link: batteries Link: batteries support.

What is the maximum capacity of clays you can have on a Bowman trap?

The largest capacity carousel which is in production and stocked at our factory is an 11-column midi carousel which holds 715 clays. The largest standard carousel is a 10 column that holds 650 clays.

We manufacture our carousels at our factory in Nottinghamshire, therefore we can tailor our designs to meet your needs.

Can I leave the trap out in all weather conditions?

Some commercial clay grounds leave their traps fixed in position, they are open to the elements all year round however these traps are used daily, meaning there’s less risk of them ceasing up.

It’s advisable to purchase a trap cover if you intend to leave your trap outside and ensure regular maintenance is undertaken

Storing a trap indoors and regular maintenance would be the ideal solution for years of trouble-free running.

Will the trap work in extreme heat and cold?

Yes, our traps work in extreme weather conditions. Our traps are used in Australia and Iceland where they experience extreme temperatures!

How can I best look after my clay trap?

Periodical maintenance is the best way to care for your trap. We recommend GT85 spray for water displacement and general lubrication and CD90 oil spray for lubricating moving parts.

We can visit your site to carry out maintenance. Please call our office on 01777 870243 if you require a visit.

What can I do if I have a breakdown?

Our electronics have been kept simple and functional for ease of use. If you encounter a problem on the day, you’re likely to be able to fix it. You get spare fuses and relays with the trap therefore in the event of a break down you can get up and running quickly and easily.

We are available Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17.00 where experienced engineers can offer you technical support. Our office number is 01777 870243.
